Sophie at 17 2021
Sophie (17) has been given temporary housing by Hope St, but her future is still uncertain. She spent her 17th birthday in a womens refuge.
“My homelessness started with my home situation and just where I was living wasn't a very safe place for me to be, so I decided to take action and try to find a safer place for me to live. I mean no one wants to be in that situation or in that predicament. It's very sad. It just makes you feel like you have hit rock-bottom at that point, especially when you're so young, you just feel like you should be with a loving family and to be able to feel safe, and not everyone gets that opportunity. I probably felt the need to leave home when I was 15, but I took action when I was 16 and I had my 17th birthday in a refuge.”
