Luis (21) and son Andre (2) 2021
When Luis was 16 he was so desperate for somewhere to stay he slept in a tent in Yarra Bend Park.
"I became homeless, through a decision I made of leaving my family's house at around 15, it was a fairly toxic environment at the time, and I ended up just going to sleep at friends' houses, and just kept just moving from different place to different place. If I didn't have somewhere to go one night, I had a friend who had a tent and he'd help me out, and he'd come with me and we'd sleep outside. I was around 16 or 17 when I was in the tent. Couch-surfing was okay, but after a while, people can only be so generous. After my son was born. My dad had let me back into the house for a while, and I was working, but what had happened is I'd lost my job because of the Covid lockdown. He ended up kicking me out again, and I lost custody of my son, and I was only able to visit him half an hour, three times a week."
