Sam 2022

Sam (22) is a transgender young person unable to stay in their family home, but through determination is now studying psychology and wants to work with other young people especially in the LGBTQI community.

“I had friends here and there that would let me come and stay with them. Before I found myself in this situation, I'd applied to live at Foyer and through that, it kind of helped me get into housing. I was searching out housing, thought I had everything set up, and then Centrelink really stuffed it up and stuffed up that transition for me, which created a situation where I had to be homeless. I felt quite frustrated and powerless and that my future was just in the hands of people that didn't care about me. I didn't feel like my situation was taken seriously enough by the people that I initially talked to.”
